then在句中的用法：then作为副词时，常用于句首或者句尾，有那时、然后、因而、而且、此外、再者、接着、既然如此等含义；then作为形容词时，在句中作为定语，意为当时的。
一、then可以作为副词，没有比较级
1、当意为（指过去）当时，那时；（指将来）到那时，届时等含义时，例句有：
Things were very different back then .
以前那个时候情况大不相同。
I saw them at Christmas but haven't heard a thing since then .
我在圣诞节见到过他们，但之后没听到过什么消息。
She left in 1984 and from then on he lived alone.
她于1984年离去，从那时起他便独自一人生活。
2、当意为然后；接着；其后；后来等含义时，例句有：
He drank a glass of whisky, then another and then another.

We lived in France and then Italy before coming back to England.

3、当意为那么；因此；既然如此等含义时，例句有：

4、当意为另外；还有；再者；而且等含义时，例句有：
She's been very busy at work and then there was all that trouble with her son.
